World Default Organization

The globe. WDO owns the Pattern Index and the country programme: dominant defaults by nation, depth by region, and the annual State of the Default — the report the press will quote when they want to know what is running the world.

The mandate

The mandate is the count. WDO publishes the Index exactly as it stands — small at the beginning, and small in print — because a ledger that inflates its early numbers can never be trusted with large ones. Country tables appear only when the filings beneath them can carry honest statistics; regions with three conversations get no flag and no headline. The annual exists for the same reason: one reading of the whole ledger, once a year, with the method attached — so anyone can check the count against the claim.
