The Instrument

The depth score.

A pattern is a category. Depth is a measurement. The score is how far the default has spread through a life — and it's why two people with the same pattern need different medicine.

What the number means

Your score is your dominant pattern's share of everything your answers revealed, normalised against how deep that pattern could run in the same conversation. It is reported on a 5–99 scale: the floor, because a file that reads 0 would say the pattern is absent when the answers only say it is quiet; the ceiling, because no person is entirely one thing. A Builder at 40% reaches for work under pressure. A Builder at 90% has no other reach left.

Why the lab scores depth

Patterns are comparable; depths are predictive. Across the Index, depth is the variable that separates a habit from an identity — and the one the lab's longitudinal work tracks: does depth move? In which direction? After what?

Why people love a score

Honestly? Because a verdict you can hold beats a paragraph you can forget. A score can be compared, shared, argued with, and — the point — re-measured. The lab publishes depth distributions openly, so your number always means something relative to the world.
